From Montreal, the truck crosses the river through the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel and takes Highway 20 to Rivière-du-Loup, crosses New Brunswick through Fredericton and Moncton, then takes the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island and Charlottetown. The trip is about 1150 km.
This route is part of our long-distance moves: your furniture is protected with blankets and strapped in the truck, and both loading and delivery follow a schedule agreed in advance.
Whether you are leaving a Rosemont apartment, a West Island house or a downtown tower, we plan the crew according to your volume. For a local move, see our Moving Montreal page.
On the narrow streets of Montreal’s central neighbourhoods, plan space for the truck several days before the move: a permit may be needed depending on the borough. In a tower, book the service elevator and loading dock with management.
Charlottetown, the capital of Prince Edward Island, is called the “Birthplace of Confederation”: the 1864 conference that led to the creation of Canada was held there. A small, walkable port city, it is home to the University of Prince Edward Island.
This route is not one of our published packages: we organize it like our other long-distance moves, with a price set by free quote. With about twelve hours on the road and the Confederation Bridge crossing, delivery is planned over two days.
From Montreal, the truck reaches Highway 20 through the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel and follows it to Rivière-du-Loup, then crosses Témiscouata. In New Brunswick, the Trans-Canada runs through Edmundston, Fredericton and Moncton; Route 16 then leads to the 12.9 km Confederation Bridge, and Route 1 takes the truck to Charlottetown. The route stays entirely in Canada.
Allow about 12 hours of driving, not counting breaks: the trip is done over two days. Prince Edward Island is on Atlantic time, one hour ahead of Quebec. The bridge toll is only paid when leaving the island.
A move to Prince Edward Island is best prepared several weeks ahead: a detailed inventory, boxes labelled by room and a list of valuables you keep with you. Also plan to exchange your driver’s licence, register your vehicle and sign up for the Island’s health insurance.
Pack a suitcase for the two days on the road and your first days in Charlottetown. Let us know if any furniture needs to be taken apart or given extra protection for such a long trip.
When leaving Montreal, check with your borough: a permit may be required to reserve the space in front of your door, with a lead time of 24 hours to 5 business days.
In a building, book the service elevator and let the superintendent know the loading time; in a plex, tell us about outdoor staircases and narrow passages.
Charlottetown’s historic downtown has wooden Victorian houses, often with narrow interior staircases, and streets where parking is limited. Newer neighbourhoods and the neighbouring town of Stratford mostly have houses with driveways.
Tell us the width of the stairs, the floor and where the truck can park. Downtown, check parking rules with the City of Charlottetown for moving day.
This route is not one of our published packages: the price is set by quote, based on your move. It mainly depends on four things:
