Kingston is in Ontario, on the shore of Lake Ontario, about 290 km from Montreal. From the island, the truck takes Highway 20 west, which becomes Highway 401 at the Ontario border and leads straight to Kingston.
This route is not one of our published packages: we organize it like our other long-distance moves, with a price set by quote based on your volume, access and date.
Whether you are leaving a plex in the Plateau, a downtown condo or a house in the West Island, we match the crew and truck to your home. For a move within the city, see our Moving Montreal page.
When leaving Montreal, plan the truck’s parking a few days ahead: depending on the borough and the street, a permit may be required, with lead times ranging from 24 hours to 5 business days. In an apartment building, also book the service elevator and let the superintendent know when loading starts.
In Kingston, older downtown homes often have narrow stairs, and buildings near Queen’s University house many tenants. Tell us the floor, the elevator or stairs and the truck access, so we can plan the crew and the time needed.
List your large furniture and note what must be taken apart. On arrival in Kingston, someone on site with the keys and a simple room plan lets our movers set each piece of furniture down in the right place.
Allow about 3 hours of driving depending on traffic, plus loading and unloading. An early start lets us leave the island before rush hour; the delivery schedule is confirmed with you when you get your quote.
Moving to another province also involves some paperwork: change of address, driver’s licence, Ontario health card and insurance. Plan these alongside your packing.
In neighbourhoods such as the Plateau, Rosemont or Villeray, many homes are upstairs, with outdoor staircases. Tell us the floor and the type of staircase so we can plan the crew.
Depending on the borough, you may need to reserve a space for the truck in front of your door. Check with your borough a few days before moving day; in a tower, also book the service elevator.
Downtown and the streets near Queen’s University have many older stone houses and upstairs units, with limited parking. In the west end, newer residential areas often offer easier access.
If the truck has to park on the street, check the City of Kingston’s rules. For an apartment building, book the elevator and loading dock with management as soon as your date is set.
