Moving Montreal to Val-d’Or

Long-distance move between Montreal and Val-d’Or

From Montreal, the truck takes Highway 15 north, then Route 117 through Mont-Laurier and the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve to Val-d’Or, in Abitibi. The trip is about 525 km.

This route is part of our long-distance moves: your furniture is protected with blankets and strapped in the truck, and both loading and delivery follow a schedule agreed in advance.

Whether you are leaving a Rosemont apartment, a West Island house or a downtown tower, we plan the crew according to your volume. For a local move, see our Moving Montreal page.

On the narrow streets of Montreal’s central neighbourhoods, plan space for the truck several days before the move: a permit may be needed depending on the borough. In a tower, book the service elevator and loading dock with management.

Val-d’Or grew out of gold mining in the 1930s and remains an important mining town in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. It is also the gateway to the region for those arriving from the south on Route 117.

This route is not one of our published packages: we organize it like our other long-distance moves, with a price set by free quote. There are few services across the La Vérendrye reserve, so the driving schedule is planned accordingly.

The route from Montreal to Val-d’Or

From Montreal, the truck takes Highway 15 north to Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, then Route 117 through Mont-Tremblant and Mont-Laurier. The road then crosses the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve before reaching Val-d’Or.

Allow about 6 hours 15 minutes of driving, not counting breaks. Gas stations are scarce in the reserve and winter can slow traffic: depending on loading time, delivery happens the same day or the next, as agreed when you get your quote.

Preparing your move from Montreal to Val-d’Or

Make an inventory of your furniture and boxes, and tell us about heavy or fragile items. The move stays within Quebec: update your address with the SAAQ, the RAMQ and your service providers.

Pack a suitcase for the trip and your first days in Val-d’Or, and keep important documents and keys with you.

Leaving Montreal: access and parking

When leaving Montreal, check with your borough: a permit may be required to reserve the space in front of your door, with a lead time of 24 hours to 5 business days.

In a building, book the service elevator and let the superintendent know the loading time; in a plex, tell us about outdoor staircases and narrow passages.

Arriving in Val-d’Or: access and parking

Val-d’Or mostly has single-family homes and two- or three-storey apartment buildings; near downtown, around 3e Avenue, streets are narrower.

Tell us where the truck can park and whether there are stairs. Winter is long in Abitibi: have the driveway and sidewalk cleared, and check snow-removal parking rules with the City.

How the price of a move to Val-d’Or is set

This route is not one of our published packages: the price is set by quote, based on your move. It mainly depends on four things:

  • Volume: the number of rooms, pieces of furniture and boxes to load, which determines the truck and crew;
  • Access: floors, outdoor stairs, elevator and the distance between the truck and the door, at both ends;
  • Date: prices may vary during the peak period, in late June and early July;
  • Added services, such as packing, a piano or a pool table.

Contact us for a free, no-obligation quote: give us both addresses, your preferred date and a list of your furniture. You can also call us at 514-703-6147.
