Sainte-Geneviève is one of the oldest village cores in Montreal’s West Island. Now part of the City of Montreal’s L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève borough, it stretches along Gouin Boulevard West on the Rivière des Prairies, between Pierrefonds and Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park. The heritage church and a few old village houses still stand there, a short walk from Cégep Gérald-Godin.

Gouin Boulevard West is the area’s only major road. Along several stretches it is narrow and parking is limited. For a house or apartment facing the boulevard, we scout a safe spot for the truck ahead of time, sometimes on a side street, so traffic is not blocked.
To reach Highway 40 and the rest of the West Island, we usually take Jacques-Bizard Boulevard or Saint-Charles Boulevard. For a move to L’Île-Bizard, the Jacques-Bizard bridge is the only road link, so we avoid it at rush hour. Downtown Montreal is a longer drive from here than from most of the island, and we factor that into the schedule and the quote.
In the old village, older houses often have steep stairs, narrow doors and delicate woodwork. We protect furniture and door frames with blankets and take large pieces apart when they will not fit. On the residential streets, single-family homes tend to have finished basements and full garages, which take longer to load.
Properties along the Rivière des Prairies sometimes have a long driveway or a sloped lot. In spring, when the river is high, check access to your street a few days before moving day. Near Cégep Gérald-Godin, student moves peak at the end of each term and around July 1st, so book early for a small move.
