Saint-Michel is part of the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough. Its boundaries match those of the former city of Saint-Michel, annexed to Montreal in 1968. The neighbourhood takes its name from the Montée Saint-Michel, a road mentioned as early as 1707, now Saint-Michel Boulevard.
For decades, the Miron and Francon quarries covered a large part of its territory. The former Miron quarry site is now home to the TOHU, the circus arts centre, and to the Complexe environnemental de Saint-Michel. Housing is mostly duplexes, triplexes and apartment buildings.
We cover the whole neighbourhood, on both sides of Pie-IX Boulevard: the streets around Saint-Michel Boulevard and Jarry Street, the area near the TOHU, and the sectors close to Highway 40.
We also serve the neighbouring areas: Saint-Léonard, Montréal-Nord, Rosemont and Parc-Extension.
Saint-Michel and Pie-IX boulevards run north–south, Jarry Street crosses the neighbourhood from east to west, and the Metropolitan Expressway (Highway 40) runs through it. Saint-Michel station is the eastern terminus of the metro’s Blue Line.
Pie-IX Boulevard has bus rapid transit lanes in the centre of the roadway, reserved for buses. If you live on Pie-IX, tell us whether there is a side street or a lane behind the building where the truck can park.
